My mom’s house is gross

I just got back from my mom’s house which got about a foot of water during the storm. Andre’ and I spent the whole day there cleaning and salvaging what we could. It pretty much sucked more than anything. We have electricity and running water but no air-conditioner. It was so awful. Everything near the floor had to be thrown out. My mom’s trunk from college was partially salvageable though and we discovered many treasures. The upper tier of the trunk had about 20 old Rolling Stone magazines from the late 60’s/ early 70’s and some torrid love letters from my father when they were corresponding while she was at Harvard. I didn’t really delve into the letters… I had to go through the remains of my old bedroom as well. I found my Rosie O’Donnell Barbie that I’ve been looking for for ages! Yes! Mostly though it was hot, slow, painful, vomit-inducing work. It really sucked. It was also really sad. Many of our family photo albums were ruined, including some of my baby pictures. I’m going back everyday for the rest of the week to continue the process since the contractors can’t start working until we get allthe shit out. I got totally dehydrated despite the fact that I was drinking bottles and bottles of water and had a horrible headache for most of the day. I really can’t reiterate how very much it sucked. The floors are all ruined, wooden tiles are scattered all around. My graduation dress was ruined. The leather jacket Peter Holsapple gave me that he used to wear while he was in the dB’s was ruined. It’s covered in mold. Of course, one sleeve was already busted up and being held together with duct tape before the flood but it’s a tragic sentimental loss for me. Naturally, my collection of New Kids On the Block T-shirts and nightgowns was unscathed. The mold is what’s really disgusting. I won’t get into it. It’s just sick. I hate that I have to keep going back there and digging through the wreckage. Well, that’s about all. I have a gig tomorrow with the Sons of William in Baton Rouge at the Mellow Mushroom after the LSU football game. Lauren, you should call your sister and tell her to get her ass over there so she can be rocked.
